What if your bag could tell you a new place to explore and give back to the community?

Hidden Path is a project based on upcycling unwanted sofas and other upholstered furniture, utilizing useable material that would be waste with final products that  creates a path to promoting local exploration while giving back to the community.

A percentage of the profits would be given to Furniture Bank, a charitable organization that assists with redistributing furniture, as well as funding towards that to help those transitioning out of homelessness or displacement.

With the use of templates, items can be made efficiently: an average 2 seater sofa can produce 6 messenger bags and multiple wallets with excess material, leaving very little to waste.

The products would be one of kind in the sense of sourcing, patterns and materials. Each product is locally sourced and the use of geotagging will allow the designer to document the source location, and incorporate a postal code into the designs. This can promote exploration of city and suburbs.

With Toronto being such a diverse city, a messenger bag, among others are an appropriate use for the material. Commuters, students, business owners, travellers, etc all have their own use for such an item. The products would be sold online as well as in stores that promote local designers and businesses in Toronto.
