Curatorial Statement:

The war is spreading, and you could be the next victim to fall. Doctors and alternative treatment advocates are clashing over who’s king of the hill. We feel like the situation is absurd. And our aim is to make it more absurd.

What happens when an alternative treatment theorist attains the status of a guru, with the absolute truth in his pocket? What happens when our relationship to extremely poisonous drugs becomes commodified and swallowed as easy as mouth wash?

By addressing the clash between conventional medicine and alternative medicine in an exaggerated form, we aim to create a visual and situational installation in which people can interact with both fronts.

By addressing the clash between conventional medicine and alternative medicine in the form of a conversational installation, we aimed to create a visual and situational installation in which people can interact with the two sides of the discussion. On one side we illustrate alternative medicine and create a personal cult around the practitioner of Ayurveda, Andreas Moritz who advocated that cancer was not a disease and could be prevented through the chemical processes from joy and laughter. Studies show that laughing in fact promotes an increase in white blood cell count. But is that enough? On the other side we have the conventional medicine with its cult of over-medication, focusing on instant cures and symptoms not prevention, with emphasis on chemical intake and uncertainty of product contents. Some of these chemicals and processes decrease white blood cell counts, but why should this happen to those who are already battling an illness?

Pill? Or no Pill?
